Getting Started

This page is for absolute newcomers to FNaF and the story. Effectively, a FAQ page aimed to clarify as many basic things about the series as possible.

Where does the story of FNaF come from?

While the story of FNaF is actually not too complicated, it's really the way the story is explained that makes things complicated. A lot of the story in most games is not at the forefront, and is mainly portrayed in easily missable easter eggs. Not to mention that ALL of the storytelling is incredibly vauge. There are some exceptions, mostly the later games, like Sister Location, Pizzeria Simulator, or FNaF VR. But even then, they also fall under the trap of being vague as well at times.

How do people figure things out about this series?

They don't. Most theorizing ends up becoming a lot of speculation due to the vagueness and open endedness of the storytelling, especially prior to FNaF World.

However, we can make educated guesses at what is happening by using all the clues and creating a narrative. It's mostly extrapolation and that sort of thing.

What's with the books/movie? Are those canon to the games?

The movie and the Silver Eyes trilogy are confirmed to not be in the game continuity. However, the anthology books (Fazbear Frights and Tales of the Pizzaplex) are in a much more ambiguous situation. Currently, a common belief is that all of Tales of the Pizzaplex is canon, and all of the strories in Fazbear Frights linked to Tales of the Pizzaplex are canon as well, by extension.

Even if the non-canon material has no effect on the storyline of the games, they can often be used to find characterization for characters and elaboration on vague events when they don't contradict the game canon.

Where can I find out more about the story of FNaF?

Unfortunately, outside of simply playing the games over and over yourself, there isn't really a reliable way to find solid information about the games that isn't either really outdated, filled with unrelated speculation, or simply misinformation. While this website is meant to help with this issue, it would help to simply talk to people that know lots about the games and inferring information out of that.

This story makes no sense! It's so convoluted and stupid!
